Abstract

This study examined Enugu Urban Residents’ Perception Of Mass Media’s Role In Curbing Domestic Violence Against Women In Nigeria With A Focus On Osinachi’s Death. In doing this, survey research methodological approach was adopted for the execution of the study. A total of 400 respondents were sampled from the population of study using Taro Yamane formula at 95% confidence level and 5% error margin. The study adopted simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using the questionnaire and analysed using simple percentage distribution table. However, hypotheses were tested using chi-square statistical formula. The findings of the study amongst others showed that mass media have been significantly used in the campaign against domestic violence in Nigeria. It was therefore recommended amongst others that there is the need to create more platforms through the various mass media so as to enable the police, women activist and other security agencies to get reports and feed backs on domestic abuses. This platform would be quite interactive and would assure the complainants of their confidentiality. This would encourage more people to report cases of domestic violence and not eventually die in ignorance. This brings about the call for the need to discourage the frequent discrimination and stigmatization attached to abused people, especially the female gender.
