Abstract

ABSTRACT This project present data on the levels and risk of human exposure to Cd, Cr, Co, Cu and Fe on commonly used washing soaps in Nigeria. Samples were digested with HNO3 69%, HClO4 65% and HCl 65% to extract the heavy metals, the concentration of the selected metals were quantified by atomic adsorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The metal concentration in mg/kg ranges from 0.056-0.76 > 0.049-0.195 > 0.060-0.123 > 0.579-1.201 > 1.552-10.01 for Co, Cd, Cu, Cr and Fe respectively. These commonly used washing soap, baby and me, viva plus, fizz, waw and viva plus gold soap are safe to use by humans based on the value of safety values that were below 100. The results highlight the need for regulations and quality control measures to ensure consumer safety and environmental protection. This research undergoes the importance of monitoring and regulating heavy metal contamination in everyday house hold product.
