EVALUATION OF ACID-MODIFIED STARCH OF BREAD FRUIT (ARTOCARPUS ALTILIS) AS A DISINTEGRANT IN PARACETAMOL TABLETS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction:
Starch is one of the most widely used excipient in the manufacture of solid dosage
forms. It is mainly used as a disintegrant, binder or filler.
Aim
The aim of this study is to formulate pharmaceutically acceptable Paracetamol
tablets using starch sourced from acid modified starch sourced from bread fruit
(Artocarpus altilis)
Objective
• To extract starch from bread fruit
• To analyze and modify the starch extracted
• To formulate paracetamol granules using the modified bread fruit starch
and native bread fruit starch
• To compare the paracetamol granules made with modified bread fruit
starch with those prepared with native bread fruit starch.
• To compact the paracetamol granules into tablets
• To compare the paracetamol tablets made with modified bread fruit starch
with those prepared with native bread fruit starch.
• To determine the properties of the compressed tablets such as hardness,
friability, disintegration time, dissolution rate and porosity.
