Abstract

This study investigates the role of evangelism in the growth of the Chapel of New Covenant Church in Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It examines how the church’s evangelistic activities have contributed to its rapid growth in membership and its impact on the local community. The study uses a qualitative research approach, involving interviews with church leaders, members, and community stakeholders. The primary aim is to explore the nature of the church’s growth, the factors contributing to this growth, and the specific role of evangelism in this process. The research highlights the church’s evangelistic strategies, including open-air crusades, house-to-house outreach, and community-based programs. These efforts have been key in addressing both spiritual and social needs, helping the church to connect effectively with the local population. Additionally, the study emphasizes the church’s organizational structure, which supports its evangelistic mission through various ministries and outreach departments. The study also discusses challenges such as limited resources, cultural resistance, and infrastructural gaps that have impacted the effectiveness of evangelism. The findings demonstrate that evangelism has been a central factor in the church’s growth, with its holistic approach to community development strengthening its relationship with the people of Mkpat Enin. The study concludes by offering recommendations for improving evangelism, including the use of digital platforms, ongoing training for evangelists, and fostering partnerships with other churches and community organizations.
