DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUTOMATED FEEDING SYSTEM FOR POULTRY FARMING
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project addresses the inefficiencies of traditional manual poultry feeding, including inconsistent distribution, labor intensity, and feed waste. The aim was to develop an automated feeding system to enhance accuracy and efficiency. The system utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller, integrating an ultrasonic sensor for feed level, infrared (IR) sensors for bird detection, and a servo motor for precise feed dispensing. An RTC module ensures accurate scheduling, with an LCD providing local feedback. Software, developed in C++ (Arduino IDE), manages all hardware, scheduled feeding, and enables remote control and monitoring via the Blynk cloud platform, with persistent settings stored in EEPROM. The physical implementation includes a servo-controlled sliding gate mechanism integrated with a feed container.
Testing confirmed successful automated feed dispensing at programmed times, contingent on sufficient feed levels and verified bird presence, significantly reducing waste. The system accurately detects feed levels and birds, communicates status via Blynk, and provides alerts. Manual control and schedule adjustments are seamlessly managed through the Blynk app.
In conclusion, this automated system effectively streamlines poultry farm management by reducing manual labor, optimizing feed utilization, improving bird welfare, and providing essential remote capabilities, contributing to more sustainable and productive farming practices.
