Abstract

The management of expired or lapsed products has long been a significant challenge for many organizations, often leading to financial loss, inventory inaccuracies, and health risks. Traditional manual methods of tracking expiry dates are prone to errors, delays, and inefficiencies. To address this problem, a web-based Lapsed Product Management System was designed and developed to automate the process of monitoring, updating, and notifying users about products nearing expiration. The system provided a centralized platform where the admin and storekeeper could interact seamlessly, manage product records, and receive real-time updates on lapsed products. The development was carried out using PHP for backend programming, HTML and CSS for front-end structure and design, JavaScript for client-side interactivity, and MySQL as the database management system. The Scrum methodology was adopted for the systematic gathering of requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment phases. The result of the development showed significant improvements in the accuracy and timeliness of product management activities. The system successfully provided real-time notifications, reduced manual errors, and ensured better inventory decision-making. User feedback indicated that the system was user-friendly, responsive, and highly effective in maintaining inventory quality and accountability. Based on the experience gathered, it was recommended that future enhancements should include mobile application integration, advanced reporting and analytics features, and multi-channel notification systems such as SMS and email alerts. These additions would further expand the system’s accessibility, functionality, and user engagement, ultimately leading to more robust inventory control in various organizational settings.
