Abstract

This study examined the generations of mobile networks and the challenges of adoption in Nigeria. The study discussed the evolution of mobile communication technologies from the first generation (1G) to the fifth generation (5G), highlighting their features, advantages, limitations, and applications. The research adopted a survey research design and data were collected through questionnaires administered to respondents from different sectors including education, finance, health, and ICT. The findings revealed that mobile network technologies have significantly improved communication, internet accessibility, and digital services in Nigeria. However, several challenges such as high infrastructure cost, poor coverage, security concerns, inadequate regulations, high cost of devices, and frequency radiation issues continue to hinder effective adoption. The study concluded that despite the enormous benefits of modern mobile networks, Nigeria still faces infrastructural and economic barriers that limit full implementation and utilization. The study therefore recommended increased investment in telecommunications infrastructure, improved regulatory policies, affordable internet services, and public awareness to enhance the adoption of advanced mobile network technologies in Nigeria.
