DETERMINATION OF CAFFEINE CONTENT IN LOCAL CONCUSSION (KURKURA) USING ULTRA-VIOLET SPECTROPHOTOMETER
Abstract
This study aimed to determine concentrations of caffeine in the samples Local concussion (Kurkura) collected from traditional/Herbal Doctors found in Talata Mafara Market. Quantitative analysis of caffeine content in the chosen samples was done with UV/Vis spectrophotometric method. Chloroform was used as the solvent and concentrations of caffeine were measured at the wavelength of 274 nm. The Local concussion (Kurkura) contained highest absorbance of caffeine. The absorbance of caffeine in Kurkura sample was in the range of 0.918 while the concentration level is 29.83μg/ml presented with an average value of 3.188 ppm. The results of this study gave preliminary information about caffeine levels in often consumed Kurkura. The caffeine content in the analyzed local concussion (Kurkura) samplesin this study gave preliminary information about the caffeine content often consumed in Kurkura is too tremendous and therefore needs to be abided.
