Abstract

ABSTRACT In this research, nanoparticles of ZnO was synthesized using waste materials of Justicia carnea leaves. The synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONP) was characterized using the UV-Visible spectrophotometry and Powdered X-ray Diffractometry (PXRD). UV-Visible spectrum revealed that ZnO NPs showed maximum absorption peaks at 339 nm. The XRD spectrum showed that the synthesized ZnO NP are crystalline in nature showing characteristic peaks at 2 theta and miller indexes of 31.7o (100), 34.4o (002), 36.3o (101), 47.4 o (102), 56.7 o (110), 63.0 o (103) and 67.7o (112). The average particle size of the nanoparticles was calculated using the Scherrer equation and was found to be 33.90 nm. Antibacterial result showed that the percentage of effectiveness of ZnO NPs was highest at 23.7 ± 0.35mm for S. aureus and at 22.6 ± 0.74 mm for P. aeruginosa in the highest concentration of 15.0 mg/mL.
