Abstract

This study examined the role of internal communication strategies in promoting employee engagement and industrial harmony, using Peace Standard Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. as a case study. The specific objectives were to identify the internal communication strategies commonly adopted, assess their relationship with employee engagement, examine their influence on industrial harmony, and evaluate the challenges faced in their implementation. The study employed a survey research design, using structured questionnaires administered to staff members across different departments. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation through SPSS. Findings revealed that the organization adopts diverse internal communication strategies such as memos, departmental meetings, and digital platforms, all of which significantly contribute to employee engagement and workplace harmony. The hypotheses testing showed strong positive correlations between communication practices, employee engagement, and industrial harmony, while also identifying challenges such as poor feedback acknowledgment and limited communication training. These results affirm that transparent and effective communication not only fosters motivation and trust but also minimizes conflict, thereby sustaining organizational stability. The study concludes that robust internal communication is essential for enhancing employee commitment and maintaining harmonious workplace relations. It recommends that organizations strengthen communication structures, invest in digital platforms, provide regular communication training, and create feedback-friendly systems. The findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge on organizational communication, with practical implications for improving employee relations and overall productivity in the Nigerian workplace context.
