Abstract

The removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria has precipitated a significant increase in transportation and living costs, adversely impacting students' academic performance at the tertiary level. This study examines the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the academic performance of students in the five faculties in Adeyemi Federal University of Education. Employing a descriptive survey research design, data were collected using structured questionnaires distributed to students. The study aims to assess the extent to which fuel subsidy removal affect students' academic performance, while exploring the influence of socio-economic factors such as family income and parental occupation. Findings revealed that majority of students perceive fuel subsidy removal as detrimental to their academic performance, citing financial constraints that hinder their ability to afford essential educational materials, secure accommodations, and engage in extracurricular activities.
