EFFECT OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF NPK FERTILIZER SUPPLY ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF GROUNDNUT SAMNUT 23 VARIETY (ARACHIS HYPOGEAL)
Abstract
The experiment was conducted in Thomas Practical Farm of Audu Bako College of Agriculture
Danbatta, Kano State. To determine the effect of different levels of N.P.K fertilizer supply on the growth
and yield of groundnut Samnut 23 (Arachis hypogeal). The experiment design was randomized
complete block design (RCBD) comprising of five treatments Samnut 23 at 0kg/ha of NPK fertilizer,
Samnut 23 at 55kg/ha of NPK fertilizer, Samnut 23 at 60kg/ha of NPK fertilizer, Samnut 23 at 65kg/ha
of NPK fertilizer, and Samnut 23 at 70kg/ha of NPK fertilizer that were replicated five times. The Data
was collected on plant height, stand count, number of branches, days of first flower, days of 50% of
flowering, and number of seed per plot. The result reveals that the significant effect was recorded for
germination percentage. Highly significant effect of N.P.K was observed on the growth and yield of
groundnut. The highest plant height (25.4cm), stand count (68.3cm), number of branches (57.6cm),
days of 50% of flowering (50.6cm), and number of seeds per plot (240.6cm). Thus, groundnut farmers
are encouraged to engage in the application 70kg/ha-1 for optimum growth and yield
