Abstract

Abstract Frequent human exposure to HCl fumes, especially among people working in chemical laboratory, is an increasing public health concern. The aim of this study is to evaluate the mitigative potential of ocimum gratissimum OG (Scent leaf) extract on liver function in rats exposed to HCl fumes. A total of fifteen male adult rats with average weight of 265g were used in this study, and the rats were placed in three groups (n=5) and orally administered normal saline (1ml/kg body weight)(normal control); HCl fumes(positive control); and HCl fumes + extract of ocimum gratissimum at 200ml/kg body weight for fourteen days to evaluate for possible mitigation of toxicities induced by HCl fumes. Biochemical parameters ( Total Protein TP, Albumin ALB, and Total Bilirubin TB) were analyzed using spectrophotometer. Results obtained showed a significant difference (p
