Abstract

This research was conducted to access the concentration of pH in streams within Akwa Ibom State University, and their fitness for aquatic lives and domestic purposes. By using data collected for two months stretch, pH was measured using standard method by APHA. The Akwa Ibom State University community, with residents close to thousand. The measurement was done in triplicate and further analysed for mean to represent the daily mean measurement for respective months as seen in table 4.1 above. The pH measurement ranged between 6.3-7.26 and 6.46-7.69, the mean value stood at 6.54 and 6.98 with same standard error 0.06 and standard deviation 0.32 for September and October, 2023 respectfully. Base on the results, maintaining the pH of water within the appropriate range as recorded in the result above is essential for ensuring water quality, protecting ecosystems, and supporting various human activities that rely on clean and safe water sources. Monitoring pH levels regularly and taking corrective actions when necessary are important steps in managing and preserving water quality within the University campus. Also, the water is within consumption range. Hence, base on the results, maintaining the pH of water within the appropriate range as recorded in the result above is essential for ensuring water quality, protecting ecosystems, and supporting various human activities that rely on clean and safe water sources. Monitoring pH levels regularly and taking corrective actions when necessary are important steps in managing and preserving water quality within the University campus. Also, the water is within consumption range.
