Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is carried out to determine the effects of Walnut (Juglans regia) aqueous extract on hematological indices of broiler chickens exposed to aflatoxin B1. A total of one hundred (100) birds was used for the experiment. The birds were randomly allocated to four treatment and replicated 5 times in a completely randomized design (CRD) each replicate has five (5) birds. With T1 (control), T2 contained 0.3mg of Aflatoxin per kg of feed, T3 contained 0.3mg of Aflatoxin with 1g/liter aqueous extract of Walnut kernel extract while T4 contained 0.3mg of Aflatoxin with 2g/liter of Walnut kernel extract. At day 42 (6 weeks), three bird were randomly selected from each replicate, stunned and cutting the two jungular veins for determination of hematological indices. The result shows that packed cell volume of birds in Control, AFWN1 and AFWN2 were significantly (p
