REFURBISHMENT OF PEUGEOT 406 FOR FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the refurbishment of a Peugeot 406 car with the aim of restoring its mechanical efficiency, electrical reliability, safety, and aesthetics. The vehicle initially exhibited several faults, including a weak battery, worn-out tyres, faulty fuel pump, damaged fan belt, ineffective wipers, and poor wiring connections, and dirty interior and exterior conditions. The refurbishment process involved the systematic replacement and servicing of major components such as the installation of a new 75AH battery, replacement of tyres, changing of engine oil and filter, renewal of spark plugs, replacement of the fuel pump, fan belt change, and rewiring of the electrical system. Additional procedures included topping up radiator coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid, as well as restoring minor but essential parts such as the bonnet absorber and windshield wipers. A thorough cleaning of the car’s interior, exterior, and engine bay was also carried out to enhance its appearance. After refurbishment, the Peugeot 406 was test-driven and showed significant improvements in starting, handling, and braking, cooling, and overall performance. The project demonstrated that systematic refurbishment can extend the lifespan of an aging vehicle, improve safety, and restore reliability at a much lower cost compared to purchasing a new car. Furthermore, the project provided practical exposure to mechanical maintenance, diagnostics, and repair skills essential for a mechanical engineering professional
