EFFECT OF CLOVES (SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM) ON SERUM METABOLITES OF BROILER CHICKENS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The experiment was carried out to determine the effect of cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) on the serum metabolite of broiler chickens. A total number of ninety-six (96) broiler chickens were randomly allotted to 4 treatments and replicates 3 times. Eight (8) birds were allotted per replicate. Basal diet is divided into four portions, designated diet 1 (control) and diets 2, 3 and 4 supplemented with 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% of Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) inclusion respectively. Birds were randomly selected from each treatment and blood samples was collected from jugular veins at the termination of the experiment. The blood samples meant for serum metabolite were collected in plain bottles without anticoagulants and will be sent to the laboratory. The result revealed that Creatinine, Alkaline phosphatase and Low density lipoprotein of birds fed Diets 1, 2, 3 and 4 were not significantly (P>0.05) affected. Urea, cholesterol and triglyceride of birds fed control diet were significantly (P0.05) similar and significantly (P
