Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this project was to ascertain how the properties of bitumen and bitumen mixes were affected by the use of tonner ink as a modifier. Improved roadway design, obtaining funding for road pavement maintenance, using high-quality building materials, and employing more efficient construction techniques are some of the strategies that have been found to be successful in preventing the ongoing deterioration of Nigeria's road pavement, which tends to shorten its lifespan. A thorough investigation of bitumen's characteristics was conducted in the lab, including tests for penetration, ductility, softening point, flash, and fire. In addition to strengthening the road construction, the application of this cutting-edge technology would extend the life of the pavement (i.e., prevent the pavement from cracking, rutting, and many other road defects). To ascertain the variation of polyethylene nylon on hot bitumen at the aforementioned percentage, 200 grams of hot bitumen were weighed for various percentages of polyethylene bags (i.e., polyethylene nylon at 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%). In each specimen container, 500g of hot bitumen and varying percentages of used tonner ink were heated on a bouncing burner until the used tonner ink was melted and thoroughly mixed.
