Abstract

ABSTRACT Navigating large educational institutions can be challenging, especially for new students, visitors, and even staff. This project focuses on the design and development of an interactive web map for Abia State Polytechnic, Aba (Main Campus), aimed at improving navigation, accessibility, and spatial awareness within the campus environment. The study integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with modern web technologies to create a dynamic, user-friendly platform that provides real-time information about campus locations, including lecture halls, administrative buildings, hostels, and essential services. The methodology adopted involved data collection through field surveys, satellite imagery, and existing campus layouts. These datasets were processed and integrated using GIS software and web mapping frameworks. The resulting system allows users to search for locations, view routes, and interact with spatial data in an intuitive manner. Findings revealed that the interactive web map significantly enhances ease of navigation, reduces time spent locating facilities, and improves overall campus experience. The system also demonstrates the potential of GIS technology in educational environments. The study concludes that implementing interactive web maps in tertiary institutions is not only beneficial but essential in the digital age. Recommendations include system expansion, mobile integration, and continuous updates to maintain accuracy and relevance.
