EVALUATION OF SOME HAEMORHEOLOGICAL PARAMETERS AMONG POST MENOPAUSAL WOMEN IN ELELE
Abstract
This study evaluated haemorheological parameters among post-menopausal women in Elele, Rivers State, Nigeria. Blood samples were collected from 47 post-menopausal women (aged 51–60 years) and compared with 30 healthy pre-menopausal controls (aged 18–25 years). Haemorheological indices—Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), Haemoglobin (Hb) concentration, and Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC)—were analyzed using standard laboratory techniques.
The mean PCV (37.04 ± 2.68% vs. 36.40 ± 3.00%), ESR (29.36 ± 0.76 vs. 29.13 ± 1.55 mm/hr), Hb (12.52 ± 0.37 vs. 12.46 ± 0.38 g/dL), and MCHC (34.01 ± 2.14 vs. 34.39 ± 2.44 g/dL) showed no statistically significant differences between the post-menopausal and control groups (p > 0.05).
The findings indicate that the natural transition into menopause does not alter key haemorheological profiles in this population.
