CONSTRUCTION OF SINGLE PHASE RESISTIVE LOAD EXPERIMENT MODULE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The project “CONSTRUCTION OF SINGLE PHASE RESISTIVE LOAD EXPERIMENT MODULE” was undertaken with the aim of solving the problem students often face in understanding how resistive loads behave in AC circuits due to lack of practical demonstration modules, also the fact that the available project module are of high cost and not often easy to buy since there are imported from overseas and even when imported, they are found to be complex and have difficulty of maintainability. To solve the problems the method applied was to find a way of designing and fabricating locally an experiment module that can perform the function of the single phase resistive load and which cost of procurement of the components should be minimal and still of good quality. This was achieved by first using the COREL draw Application to draw the facial board then printing the face unto a plastic board, after that, the wooden casing and the metal housing were constructed. Testing of the constructed experiment module was done by performing some experiments: Basic AC Circuit Measurements: Circuit Analysis and Component Behaviours: Measurement of voltage, current, and power: Verification of Ohms Law in AC Circuit: Determination of Power Factor: Waveforms observing: Series and Parallel Resistor Combinations: Verification of circuit Theorems: Study of Power Relationship (Real, Reactive, Apparent): Single-phase Rectifier/AC Voltage Controller with R-load and Load Testing. The fabricated equipment was found to be rugged, easy to use and have easy maintainability. Tracing of faults experienced during construction, was easy and repairable. The single-phase resistive load experiment module hereby constructed can serves as a valuable teaching aid for electrical laboratories. Recommendations are that the single-phase resistive load experiment module should be constructed in mass for use in the country and even in neighbouring countries instead of importation henceforth.
