Abstract
ABSTRACT
This socio-linguistic analysis explores the impact of Remi Raji's poetry within selected secondary schools in Ogo-Oluwa L.G.A, Ajawa of Oyo State. The study looks into the socio-linguistic elements present in Raji's poetry, gauge students' perceptions and responses, assess the influence of the poetry on linguistic and cultural awareness, and uncover the educational and cultural implications of incorporating Raji's work into the curriculum.
Through a questionnaire administered to 100 students, the research reveals that the indigenous language usage in Raji's poetry is recognized as enhancing cultural depth. However, concerns about language complexity are noted, suggesting a need for educational support. Students express positive attitudes toward the poetry's engagement with socio-cultural themes, indicating its potential impact on cultural awareness and literary exposure.
The study recommends curricular integration of more works by local poets, professional development for educators, and initiatives to preserve local cultural heritage. The findings contribute to understanding the role of poetry in secondary education, emphasizing the need for diverse literary voices to enrich students' cultural and linguistic experiences.
