Abstract
This study investigated the integration of mobile learning technologies into classroom instruction among pre-service teachers in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The study specifically examined the types of mobile technologies used by pre-service teachers, the extent of integration of mobile learning technologies in teaching Basic Science and Technology (BST), and the effect of integrating mobile learning technologies on gender. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of the study consisted of pre-service teachers in Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden. A sample size of seventy (70) pre-service teachers was selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Integrated Mobile Learning Technologies Questionnaire (IMLTQ).” The instrument was validated by experts in the Department of Science Education, Akwa Ibom State University, while the reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained using Cronbach Alpha reliability method. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that smartphones, tablets, laptops, mobile applications and internet-enabled devices are commonly used by pre-service teachers in classroom instruction. The study also revealed that mobile learning technologies are highly integrated into the teaching of Basic Science and Technology (BST). Furthermore, the findings showed that gender has no significant influence on the integration of mobile learning technologies among pre-service teachers. Based on the findings, it was concluded that mobile learning technologies enhance effective teaching and learning among pre-service teachers. The study therefore recommended that schools and government should provide adequate technological facilities and internet access to support mobile learning in educational institutions.
