Abstract

In tropical regions, vectors of disease are very important to the field of public health as infectious agents for transmission through the skin or other openings, either by biting or infecting, and are capable of transmitting it. This paper aimed to assess the problems associated with vector control in Kaltungo L.G.A., Gombe State. The study examined the chemical, physical, biological, and traditional methods of vector control in Kaltungo. This research considered a cross-sectional descriptive design to assess the knowledge of vector control. The study adopted the survey research design. Survey design is explained by Nwogu (2001) as a procedure used in obtaining information from a sample or relevant population that is familiar with the ideas relating to the objectives of the study. Data were collected using a self-structured questionnaire. In this study, 57% of the respondents were males while 42% were females. The result of this research shows that the respondents' perception regarding the biological method of vector control in the community indicated that 64% agree with the biological method, while 36% of the respondents disagree with the biological method of vector control. Therefore, the researcher recommended that public enlightenment campaigns on the importance of environmental sanitation should be intensified.
