Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates sustainable architectural strategies in the design of an art gallery in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. As buildings contribute significantly to energy consumption and environmental degradation, sustainable design becomes imperative, especially for cultural spaces such as art galleries that demand specific environmental conditions for art preservation. The research employs a qualitative and design-based methodology, integrating literature reviews, case study analyses, and contextual design proposals. Findings highlight the effectiveness of passive cooling strategies, the use of local and recycled materials, and sustainable technologies like solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting. The proposed Crystal Art Gallery design emphasizes environmental sustainability, cultural identity, and spatial flexibility, serving as a model for eco-friendly cultural architecture in similar climatic contexts. Keywords: sustainable architecture, art gallery design, Osogbo, passive cooling, local materials
