ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METALS IN WATER, SEDIMENTS AND PLANTS OF OYAN LAKE, ABEOKUTA
Abstract
Heavy metal concentrations in plant tissues, sediment, and water samples were analyzed using standard methods. Plants were categorized based on their heavy metal content to determine their accumulation potential. In the result obtained, Lycopus lucidus (Plant C) exhibited the highest concentrations of Mn and Cu, with values reaching 193.88±0.03 mg/kg and 71.95±1.20 mg/kg, respectively. Carex eburnea (Plant A) and Kyllinga brevifolia (Plant B) also accumulated substantial amounts of these metals, with notable Zn levels of 96.28±0.43 mg/kg in PaLb for Carex eburnea and
62.03 ±0.13 mg/kg in PbLa for Kyllinga brevifolia.
