CONFLICT RESOLUTION STRATEGIES AND ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY: A CASE STUDY OF FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTER OWO, ONDO STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the impact of conflict resolution strategies on organizational productivity in the Nigerian healthcare sector, using Federal Medical Center, Owo, Ondo State as a case study. The study focuses on three key conflict resolution strategies (avoiding, collaboration, and compromising) to assess their influence on enhancing organizational productivity. A quantitative research design was employed, and structured questionnaires were administered to staff across various departments of the hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including correlation and regression analysis. The findings reveal that compromising has the most significant positive effect on organizational productivity; while avoiding and competing do not show a statistically significant influence. The study concludes that adopting a compromising approach to resolving workplace conflicts should be prioritized to improve teamwork, efficiency, and overall productivity. The study contributes to organizational behavior literature by emphasizing the role of constructive conflict management in achieving productivity in the Nigerian healthcare context. Recommendations include implementing training programs on effective conflict resolution techniques, fostering a culture of compromise, and minimizing adversarial approaches to workplace disagreements.
