AIRBORNE INTERNET: A STUDY ON FEASIBILITY, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF IN-FLIGHT CONNECTIVITY
Abstract
Airborne Internet: A Study on Feasibility, Challenges, and Opportunities of In-Flight Connectivity, the proliferation of mobile devices and the increasing demand for internet connectivity have extended beyond terrestrial boundaries, driving the need for airborne internet connectivity. This study investigates the feasibility, challenges, and opportunities of providing in-flight internet connectivity, transforming commercial airliners into flying hotspots. The research explores the current state of in-flight connectivity, including existing technologies, infrastructure, and services. It delves into the technical, economic, and regulatory challenges that hinder the widespread adoption of airborne internet, such as signal interference, bandwidth constraints, and security concerns. Furthermore, this study examines the opportunities and benefits of in-flight connectivity, including enhanced passenger experience, increased productivity, and potential revenue streams for airlines. It also discusses the emerging trends and innovations in airborne internet, such as satellite-based connectivity, air-to-ground networks, and Li-Fi technology. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. Primary data was gathered through surveys, interviews, and focus groups with airlines, passengers, and industry experts. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the feasibility, challenges, and opportunities of airborne internet connectivity. The research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by identifying key drivers and barriers to adoption, as well as highlighting potential solutions and future directions for in-flight connectivity. Ultimately, this study aims to inform airlines, policymakers, and industry stakeholders about the potential of airborne internet to transform the passenger experience, drive business growth, and shape the future of commercial aviation. Keywords: airborne internet, in-flight connectivity, feasibility, challenges, opportunities, passenger experience, airlines, commercial aviation.
