STUDENT’S PERCEPTION ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN BIOLOGY: A CASE STUDY OF IYAMHO SECONDARY SCHOOL, IYAMHO, EDO STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effect of group learning on the academic achievement of students in
Biology at Iyamho Secondary School, Iyamho, Edo State. The research aims to explore whether
collaborative learning strategies can significantly enhance students' understanding and
performance in Biology compared to traditional teaching methods. An experimental design was
employed, involving two groups of students: one group engaged in group learning activities
while the other received conventional instruction. Data were collected through pre-tests and
post-tests to measure academic achievement. The findings indicate that students who
participated in group learning demonstrated a significant improvement in their Biology scores
compared to those who were taught using traditional methods. The study concludes that group
learning is an effective pedagogical strategy for improving academic outcomes in Biology and
recommends its integration into the teaching curriculum to foster better student engagement and
performance.
