DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN ROBOT INTERACTIONS FOR ASSISTING THE ELDERLY
Abstract
Abstract
As the global population ages, there is an increasing demand for innovative solutions to support the elderly in maintaining their independence and quality of life. In this project, the development of a Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) system aimed at assisting elderly individuals in their daily activities. The proposed system leverages advancements in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction to create a user-friendly and effective assistant for the elderly. The HRI system is designed with a focus on adaptability, safety, and ease of use. It integrates speech recognition, gesture detection, and environmental sensors to enable intuitive communication between the user and the robot. The system's AI capabilities allow it to learn and adapt to the preferences and routines of individual users, providing personalized assistance that ranges from medication reminders and emergency alerts to companionship and cognitive engagement. This research will explore the challenges of developing an HRI system for the elderly, including addressing the diverse needs of users, ensuring robust and reliable operation in varied home environments, and maintaining user privacy and data security. Initial user studies indicate that the system enhances the independence and well-being of elderly users, demonstrating significant potential for widespread application.
