DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A SOLAR POWERED PAINT MIXER
Abstract
A solar-powered paint mixing machine was developed. The machine consisted of a consisted of a bucket mount that can mix 5-10 litres of emulsion paint. The test was carried out by mixing in 5litre container at different speed levels to get the time taken to mix thoroughly. The machine employed a 0.25 Hp electric motor which transmitted rotary motion from the driving component through a V-belt to the driven which is supported by two bearings, to control the speed of the machine a variable speed control system was employed, it was made adjustable to account for different sizes of paint. From the test results obtained from running of the machine showed that the time taken to mix thoroughly 5 Litres of paint constituents was 4 minutes at 700rpm. The project focuses on achieving optimal paint homogeneity through the integration of a bladeless centrifugal mixer while also ensuring efficiency by employing an AC-DC converter as a backup power supply energy use and ease of operation. By incorporating solar energy, this project not only enhances the efficiency of small-scale paint mixing but also aligns with global sustainability goals, providing a viable alternative for the Nigerian paint industry. This version emphasizes the key aspects of the project: its purpose, the challenges addressed, the use of solar energy, and its potential to improve sustainability and efficiency in paint manufacturing.
