Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the impact of CEO attributes on the financial performance of listed healthcare companies in Nigeria. Specifically, it investigates the effects of CEO gender, CEO tenure, and CEO share ownership on financial performance. Ex-post facto design was employed in the study. Data were collected from annual report and accounts of the sampled healthcare companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) from 2014 to 2023. outcomes. Findings from the study showed that CEO gender has an insignificant positive impact on financial performance of the listed companies. Also, CEO tenure has a significant negative impact on financial performance. Moreover, CEO share ownership has a significant positive impact on financial performance of the companies. The study therefore recommends that listed healthcare companies in Nigeria should implement policies that encourage gender diversity in executive roles. The companies should also implement long-term leadership development programs, fostering a supportive executive environment, and aligning CEO incentives with long-term strategies goals. Furthermore, the companies should encourage CEO share ownership by implementing policies that promote CEO share ownership to align executive interests with those of shareholders. This could include establishing stock ownership plans and performance-based compensation structures that encourage executives to invest in the firm's success.
