Abstract

ABSTRCT This study investigates the pipeline transportation and distribution of petroleum products in port Harcourt, Nigeria. using a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative data from various stakeholders and sources. The findings reveal that the Nigerian pipeline network is in a state of disrepair and dysfunction, due to inadequate investment, maintenance and security, as well as corruption, sabotage and vandalism. The pipeline network has significant economic, social and environmental impacts on the host communities and the wider Nigerian society, which are perceived and experienced differently by different stakeholders. There are opportunities and strategies for addressing the challenges and impacts of pipeline transportation and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria, which require a multi-stakeholder and systemic approach. The study makes several contributions to the knowledge and practice of sustainable pipeline development and management in port Harcourt and offers recommendations for policy, practice and research. However, the study also has some limitations and challenges, which should be acknowledged and addressed in future research and practice. The study concludes that pipeline transportation is a critical enabler of efficient and effective petroleum product distribution in port Harcourt Nigeria, but it also has significant impacts that need to be managed and mitigated through a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable approach.
