DESIGN AND DEPLOYMENT OF A CLOUD-BASED NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE USING MICROSOFT AZURE (CASE STUDY OF FCAH&PT)
Abstract
This project focuses on the design and deployment of a scalable cloud-based network
infrastructure for the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology
(FCAH&PT) using Microsoft Azure. The primary goal was to address the constraint of the
existing on-premises systems, which were constrained by limited scalability, poor
accessibility, high maintenance costs, and inadequate data security. These issues hindered
efficient academic and administrative operations, especially as the institution sought to
integrate modern e-learning platforms and digital services.
The solution implemented comprised three key components: a Virtual Network (VNet) for
secure communication across different departments, a Windows Server 2019 virtual
machine for centralized network and resource management, and cloud-based storage with
automated backup features to safeguard institutional data. This infrastructure was
developed following the Waterfall model, which guided the process through requirements
gathering, network design, configuration, testing, and deployment. During testing, the
infrastructure was evaluated by 12 selected users, representing both administrative and
academic staff. The evaluation criteria included system performance, security, usability,
and reliability.
Results showed a significant improvement in uptime, enabling uninterrupted access to
resources. The system also enhanced security through controlled user authentication,
encrypted communication, and secures storage solutions. Operational costs were reduced
by minimizing the need for frequent hardware upgrades and maintenance. In addition to
immediate benefits, the deployed system supports future scalability by allowing the
integration of new services and technologies without overhauling the entire infrastructure.
This flexibility positions the college to adopt emerging educational technologies, such as
virtual classrooms, online examinations, and collaborative research platforms.
Overall, this project demonstrates that adopting cloud-based solutions in academic
institutions can deliver substantial improvements in operational efficiency, data protection,
and service delivery. The use of Microsoft Azure provided a cost-effective, reliable, and
adaptable platform that meets current needs while accommodating future growth. This
approach serves as a model for similar institutions seeking to modernize their IT
infrastructure, enhance digital transformation, and improve the overall quality of service to
students, staff, and stakeholders.
