HEPATOPROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF ZIZIPHUS MAURITIANA AGAINST ALUMINIUM CHLORIDE AND D-GALACTOSE INDUCED DAMAGE IN MALE ALBINO WISTAR RATS.
Abstract
This study investigates the protective effect of Ziziphus mauritiana against hepatotoxicity induced by
Aluminium Chloride (AlCl 3 ) and D-galactose in Male albino Wistar rats. The primary objectives
were to assess histomorphological changes in liver tissues and to evaluate serum levels of ALT and
AST following exposure to AlCl 3 and D-galactose. Histological examination revealed significant
alterations in liver architecture in the treated groups, indicative of hepatic injury. Serum analyses
demonstrated elevated levels of ALT and reduced AST, suggesting impaired liver function.
However, supplementation with Ziziphus mauritiana resulted in notable amelioration of these effects,
indicating its potential as a protective agent against toxic substances such as AlCl 3 and D-galactose.
These findings contribute to the understanding of the hepatotoxic mechanisms of various substances
and highlight the therapeutic potentials of Ziziphus mauritiana in mitigating liver damage.
