Abstract

Diabetes is a erious metabolic disorJer with micro and macrovascular complications that results in significant morbidity aml mortality. This study was aimed at investigating the effect of cthanolic leaf extract of lpomoea bawras leaf on blood glucose level and lipid profile status in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Thirty (30) apparently healthy male Wistar rats were grouped into: control, diabetic, diabetic+ 50 mg/kg, diabetic+ l 00 mg/kg, diabetic+ 200 mg/kg (ethanolic leaf extract of lpomoea batatas) and diabetic + 21.4 mg/kg metformin (reference drug). All rats except those in the control group were made diabetic using a single intraperitoneal injection of 90 mg/kg streptozotocin.
