PLANNING AND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF ORGANISATIONAL OBJECTIVES IN IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF IREPO LOCAL GOVERNMENT)
Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between strategic planning and the achievement of
organizational objectives in Nigeria, employing a survey research design. The research
focuses on organizations across various sectors to determine how planning processes
influence their performance and goal attainment. A structured questionnaire was distributed
to 250 employees in both public and private organizations, and 200 valid responses were
analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive statistics
were used to summarize the data, while correlation and regression analyses were applied to
test the hypotheses. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between effective
planning and the achievement of organizational objectives. Additionally, regression results
indicated that clear goal setting, resource allocation, and contingency planning significantly
predict organizational success. This study concludes that well-structured planning processes
are crucial for organizations in Nigeria to achieve their goals and recommends that
organizations should invest in better planning mechanisms to improve overall performance.
