THE INFLUENCE OF MOBILE PHONES ON THE PRACTICE OF JOURNALISM AMONG MEMBERS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ), OGUN STATE CHAPTER
Abstract
This study examined the influence of mobile phones on the practice of journalism among members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter. It explored how journalists use mobile phones for news gathering and dissemination, the benefits and challenges of mobile journalism, and its impact on journalistic ethics. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and used a structured questionnaire administered to 100 NUJ members in Ogun State. Findings revealed that mobile phones have enhanced speed, efficiency, and accessibility in journalism practice but also introduced challenges such as poor network connectivity, misinformation, and ethical concerns. The study concludes that while mobile phones have significantly improved journalistic practice, continuous training and adherence to ethical standards are necessary to maximize their effectiveness.
