EFFECT OF THYMOQUINONE ON PACKED CELL VOLUME AND HAEMOGLOBIN LEVEL IN MALE ADULT WISTAR RATS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study investigates the effect of thymoquinone on packed cell volume ans hemoglobin level in adult male wistar rats. Thymoquinone (TQ), derived from Nigella sativa seeds, is known for its health benefits, including potential effects on hematological parameters.
To investigate the effects of Thymoquinone (TQ) on two key hematological parameters, Packed Cell Volume (PCV) and Hemoglobin (Hb) levels, in adult male Wistar rats. Its aim to determine whether TQ administration increases, decreases, or has no effect on PCV and Hb levels.
A total of 21 adult male Wistar rats with 7 experimental animals assigned to each group which included Group A (normal control), Group I (Thymoquinone low dose),and Group J (Thymoquinone high dose). After fourteen days of acclimatization, 11mg thymoquinone (LD) and 22mg thymoquinone (HD) were administered.
It was discovered that the administration of thymoquinone to male adult Wistar rats showed there is an observable trend towards higher PCV but lack of statistical significance. It demonstrates that administration of thymoquinone significantly elevates hemoglobin levels in adult male Wistar rats.
This study has demonstrated that the packed cell volume (PCV) increased in adult male Wistar rats though the differences were not statistically significant. The administration of thymoquinone, at both low and high doses, significantly increased hemoglobin levels in adult male Wistar rats compared to the control group, indicating the potential of thymoquinone to enhance erythropoiesis or red blood cell function in this animal model.
