EFFECT OF ACADEMIC RECORDS MANAGEMENT ON STUDENTS IN SELECTED PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS IN KWARA STATE NIGERIA
Abstract
This study investigates the effect of academic records management on students of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and Summit University, Offa, both located in Kwara State, Nigeria. Academic records management is vital for ensuring the accurate documentation, storage, and retrieval of students' information, which plays a significant role in academic progression and institutional administration. The research focuses on the effectiveness of existing records management systems, their impact on students' academic experiences, and the challenges encountered by the institutions in implementing efficient systems. Adopting a descriptive survey design, the study collected data from students through structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis revealed that effective academic records management systems positively influence students' academic performance, administrative efficiency, and overall satisfaction. However, the study also identified challenges such as inadequate technological infrastructure, insufficient training for administrative personnel, and limited adherence to best practices in records management. The findings underscore the need for both universities to adopt innovative digital records management solutions, improve training programs for staff, and establish clear policies to address data security and accessibility. These measures will enhance operational efficiency, support academic integrity, and ensure a seamless academic experience for students. The study concludes with recommendations for implementing modernized systems, prioritizing staff development, and integrating cloud-based solutions to overcome the existing challenges and improve service delivery in the institution
