Abstract

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental pollutant used in the polymer industry to produce plastics. BPA has been reported to cause deleterious effects in both humans and animals. Apigenin (APG) is a plant-derived flavonoid that shows promise as a chemo preventive agent for skin cancer. It is abundant in fruits and vegetables. This study was carried out to assess the Bisphenol A –induced Cardio-nephrotoxicity and protective effect of Apigenin. Twenty (20) Male Wistar rats were used for the study and randomly divided into four groups of five animals per group as follow: Group A: Control (they were given water and feed only throughout the study), Group B: Oral administration of bisphenol A (100 mg/kg body weight) only, Group C: Oral administration of bisphenol A and apigenin (100 mg/kg body weight), Group D: Oral administration of bisphenol A and apigenin (200 mg/kg body weight. Both BPA and Apigenin were administered orally using an oral gavage based on the individual body weight of each rat. Results from the study revealed that BPA intoxication caused a significant (p
