EFFECT OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNINGS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN BIOLOGY AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT’S IN GUSAU LOCAL GOVERNMENT METROPOLIS OF ZAMFARA STATE.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study was designed to investigate the Effect of Collaborative Learnings on Academic Performance in Biology among SS II Student’s in Secondary Schools in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The study adopted Quasi-experimental research design. Two research questions guided the study and the two hypothesis was formulated and tested at a reliability index of 0.73 and 0.82 respectively. One hundred and twenty (120) SS II students constituted the subject of the study. Simple random sampling techniques was used to assigned sixty (60) students from t four (4) selected secondary schools to control and experimental groups each. A self-structured instrument was designed by the researchers named Reproductive System Performance Test (RSPT) for data collection. This was developed by the researchers by selecting questions from SS II Biology syllabus. Twenty (20) multiple choice questions with four options (a, b, c, d) were selected from the past WAEC question. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive difference in the performance of secondary school students in Biology when they are taught with collaborative learning Instructional Strategy. The students taught with collaborative learning achieve better in Biology than the students taught using traditional lecture-based method. The paper concluded that collaborative learning was found to poster and sustain a positive, safe, students-centered environment among students.
