Abstract

The study was designed to determine the effects of varying levels of biocharcoal on the growth performance and Haematological parameters of West Africa Dwarf (WAD) rams. A total number of fifteen (15) WAD rams were used with initial weight 20.00 0.2kg in a completely randomized design. Five dietary concentrates were formulated with varying level of biocharcoal at control level, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% as treatment 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Parameters determined for growth performance included initial weight, final weight, weight gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The parameters assessed for Haematological indices included packed cell volume (PCV), Red Blood Cell (RBC), White Blood Cell (WBC) platelets, Haemoglobin, Lymphocytes, Neutrophils, Monocytes, Eosinophils and Basophils. The Blood samples were collected at the end of the feeding trial into anticoagulant bottles for Haematological determination. Data collected were subjected to one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results showed that the highest weight gain (9.03kg) was recorded at WAD rams fed diets containing 2.0% inclusion of biocharcoal which was significantly influenced (P
