DESIGN OF DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR PEOPLES ROAD OGBOR HILL, ABA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, ABIA STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Flooding has remained a persistent and disruptive challenge along Peoples Road, Ogbor Hill in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State. This study focuses on the design of an efficient and sustainable drainage system aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of stormwater accumulation in the area. The project integrates hydrological analysis, hydraulic design principles, and environmental considerations to develop a practical drainage solution.
Field observations, rainfall data analysis, and topographical assessments were conducted to determine runoff characteristics and flow patterns. The Rational Method was applied to estimate peak discharge, while appropriate channel dimensions and slopes were designed to ensure effective water conveyance.
Results indicate that the proposed drainage system significantly improves stormwater flow capacity, reduces flood risk, and enhances road durability. The study concludes that proper drainage design is critical to urban infrastructure resilience and recommends implementation alongside regular maintenance for long-term effectiveness.
