Abstract

This study examines the role of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in drug prevention and control in Bauchi Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State. The research assesses NDLEA’s strategies in demand reduction, supply reduction, public enlightenment, enforcement, and rehabilitation, as well as the challenges affecting effective drug control at the local level. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from NDLEA personnel, community members, and relevant stakeholders through questionnaires and interviews. Findings indicate that NDLEA plays a significant role through arrests, seizures, sensitization campaigns, and collaboration with community leaders and schools. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, manpower constraints, limited logistics, and weak community cooperation reduce effectiveness. The study recommends improved funding, strengthened community partnerships, enhanced intelligence-led policing, and expanded prevention education to improve drug control outcomes in Bauchi LGA.
