THE EFFECT OF INFORMATION SYSTEM USE ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE:EVIDENCE FROM FIRST BANK ABEOKUTA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of information system (IS) use on organizational performance at First Bank Abeokuta, Nigeria, focusing on the impact of Transaction Processing Systems (TPS), Knowledge-Based Information Systems (KBIS), Management Information Systems (MIS), and Office Automation Systems (OAS) on key performance metrics. A survey research design was employed, targeting employees across First Bank branches in Sapon, Panseke, and Lafenwa. The study population consisted of 400 staff members, from which a sample size of 196 was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s formula and stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The regression results revealed that TPS had a significant positive effect on organizational performance (β = 0.287, t = 5.218, p < 0.001), indicating its role in enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. KBIS also showed a significant positive effect (β = 0.275, t = 5.612, p < 0.001), highlighting its contribution to knowledge sharing and innovation. MIS exhibited the strongest effect (β = 0.319, t = 6.019, p < 0.001), underscoring its critical role in strategic decision-making. OAS had a significant positive effect (β = 0.261, t = 5.118, p < 0.001), demonstrating its impact on administrative efficiency and productivity. The study concluded that TPS, KBIS, MIS, and OAS significantly enhance organizational performance at First Bank Abeokuta. It is recommended that bank management prioritize MIS upgrades, improve system integration, institutionalize knowledge-sharing frameworks, and expand OAS applications to further boost operational efficiency, decision-making quality, and competitiveness.
