Abstract

The Sales Forecasting System Using Linear Regression Model and Time Series is a comprehensive, data-driven solution designed to predict future sales performance by analyzing historical sales records. In many businesses, particularly within local and small-scale commercial settings, sales forecasting is still managed manually or through basic spreadsheet tools. These approaches often result in inaccuracies, delayed insights, and unreliable projections, which can negatively impact inventory planning, marketing strategies, and overall business growth. This project introduces a robust statistical forecasting system that addresses these limitations by offering precise, automated, and actionable sales predictions. By leveraging the combined strengths of Linear Regression and Time Series Analysis, the system effectively models historical sales patterns, detects seasonality, identifies trends, and generates accurate forecasts. Users are able to upload their own sales datasets. Visualize patterns over time, and obtain detailed forecasts through a simple and intuitive interface. The forecasting application was developed using Python and integrates several powerful libraries. NumPy is utilized for efficient numerical computations, Pandas for comprehensive data manipulation and cleaning, scikit-leam (sklearn) for implementing the Linear Regression model and training predictive algorithms, and Plotly for producing interactive and visually engaging data visualizations. The integration of these tools ensures that the forecasting process is both technically sound and user-friendly. The system was tested using sample sales datasets, where the model was trained, validated, and evaluated against standard accuracy metrics such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). The results demonstrated a high level of predictive accuracy, confirming the reliability of the system for real-world application. Ultimately, the primary objective of this Sales Forecasting System is to empower businesses with insights that enable data-driven decision-making. By automating the forecasting process, it minimizes human error, reduces the time required for analysis, and supports better inventory management. Businesses can anticipate demand more effectively, avoid the financial risks of overstocking or understocking, and allocate resources strategically. The system stands as a valuable asset for small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to improve operational efficiency, enhance profitability, and remain competitive in a data- centric marketplace
