DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB BASED EXAMINATION CANDIDATE VERIFICATION SYSTEM
Abstract
Examination malpractice, particularly impersonation, remains a critical challenge in
educational institutions, undermining the integrity and credibility of academic assessments.
Traditional verification methods, such as manual identity checks and physical ID cards, are
prone to errors, delays, and security vulnerabilities. This project presents the design and
implementation of a web-based examination candidate verification system aimed at
addressing these issues. The system employs a two-factor authentication process using
matriculation numbers and unique system-generated verification codes to ensure that only
legitimate students are granted access to examination sessions. Developed using PHP,
MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the system features secure student registration, real-
time verification, administrative control panels, and audit logging for accountability.
Testing confirmed high accuracy, improved efficiency, and enhanced security compared
to manual processes. The proposed system provides a scalable, user-friendly, and reliable
solution to strengthen examination integrity in higher education institutions
