A COMPUTERIZED HOSTEL ALLOCATION SYSTEM: A CASE STUDY OF CRESCENT UNIVERSITY, ABEOKUTA.
Abstract
A hostel is a place that provides affordable accommodation, mostly for students who live away from home. Crescent University Abeokuta, like other private universities in Nigeria, provides hostel accommodation for its students. However, the traditional manual approach to hostel allocation in Crescent University Abeokuta is time consuming, prone to errors, and lacks accessibility for students who cannot be physically present. As student numbers increase each session, this outdated process leads to inefficiency, delays, and administrative strain. This project aims to develop a hostel allocation system designed to simplify the process of assigning accommodations to students at Crescent University Abeokuta. This involved developing its design framework, implementing the system, and testing it with relevant data. The system was built using a user centered design approach. We used HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP for the system's development, and MySQL for the database to store information. The system enables students to register and apply for hostel accommodation, and provides administrators with tools to manage room allocations, handle complaints, generate reports on hostel occupancy, and control access based on users. The proposed solution can successfully make hostel allocation easier and more efficient. Students can apply for accommodation remotely, and administrators can easily manage allocations and monitor usage. Overall, this system offers a more organized and reliable alternative to manual allocation and is expected to improve satisfaction for both students and staff at Crescent University Abeokuta.
