Abstract

ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases remain a major global health concern, with oxidative stress playing a significant role in cardiac dysfunction. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Irvingia wombolu on cardiac function and antioxidant parameters in male wistar rats. Key biomarkers analyzed included Creatine Kinase (CK), Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Lipid Peroxidation (MDA), and Catalase activity. Experimental groups received graded doses Irvingia wombolu extract, and biochemical assays were conducted to assess alterations in serum cardiac enzyme levels and heart tissue oxidative stress markers. The findings revealed no significant changes in CK, LDH, SOD, GPx, Catalase, or MDA levels compared to the control group, indicating a neutral effect on cardiac function and antioxidant activity. Histological analysis revealed preserved heart structure in extract-treated rats. Irvingia wombolu exhibited dose-dependent cardioprotective and antioxidant properties, suggesting its potential as a natural therapeutic agent for heart damage. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA (P
